Recently, a testing report from the Guangdong Microbial Analysis and Testing Center showed that the ceramic samples sent for testing by the Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have antibacterial properties, marking another new breakthrough in the research and development of rare earth glaze ceramics in China.
At the Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, known as the "hometown of rare earths" in China, the reporter saw porcelain cups with colors that subverted people's imagination shining brightly in the cabinets. Rare earths are amazing. With a slight adjustment in the addition ratio and firing temperature, the colors can vary greatly, "said Chi Jianyi, director of the Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Previously, the rare earth sulfide coloring agent developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences was non-toxic, harmless, and long-lasting. Its technology is at the world level and has been included in the" List of Toxic and Harmful Raw Material Products Substitutes Encouraged by the State ", which is a major breakthrough in China's high value-added application of rare earths; The new rare earth glazed ceramics will become a new milestone in the development of porcelain in China.
It is reported that this new environmentally friendly rare earth glaze ceramic combines rare earth elements with traditional minerals, uses a unique electronic layer structure to "blend" glaze, and is fired at a high temperature of about 1300 degrees Celsius to form glaze effects such as snowflakes, rainbows, cherry blossoms, starry sky, and ice cracks. It has qualities such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, no radiation, and lead-free cadmium leaching, and has both practical and artistic value.
On January 22, 2019, a test report from the Guangdong Microbial Analysis and Testing Center showed that the ceramic samples submitted by the Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences had an antibacterial rate of over 99.99% against Staphylococcus aureus and 99.9% against Escherichia coli.
This is the result of optimizing the core antibacterial technology of rare earth glazes. The rare earth modified inorganic antibacterial components in rare earth glazes can effectively destroy bacterial cell membranes and inhibit bacterial proliferation, thereby exerting antibacterial effects; Rare earth glazed ceramics have applied for four national projects, and a pilot demonstration production line has been built, which is moving towards industrialization. In the future, the produced tableware, tea sets and other porcelain will have non-toxic and antibacterial properties.
